Im going to be getting free food five times this lovely Thursday afternoon, so I thought I could not only tantalize you with tales of my free food, but also tell you about the fine student organizations that have given me these incomparable dining opportunities. Career Fair If Im being honest, not a lot of undergrads seem to be really successful at finding careers hereits more about making contacts, finding channels through which you can apply, and exploring the wealth of options available to you as an MIT graduate. Most of the people Course X end up finding careers through monstertrak or one of the myriad interviews and information sessions set up on campus. But undergrads dont have trouble plundering the treasure trove of free stuff that all the companies give out. Basically, all you have to do is go up while the representatives are talking, and FREE COOKIES/TOYS/T-SHIRTS/LIGHT-UP PENS!! I recommend hitting up Shell first, because they give you a bag full of free stuff, in which you can carry all your other free stuff. In a related note, Xanga was at the MIT career fair. Creepy. Student Center Reading Room rededication or something like that I was actually headed back to lab after the career fair, but I saw a poster in Lobby 7 that said something like FREE FOOD! TODAY! 4 PM! Since it was 3:55 and I am easily influenced by casual suggestions, I shimmied back over across the street and up 5 flights of stairs to the top floor of the student center, where Tim the Beaver was presiding over a platter of delicious chicken wings and an assortment of pastries. There was a sign there urging me to give blood, and to be honest I would have done that too if I didnt have somewhere to be in 45 minutes. I looked inside the new reading room and, you know, it really s a lot nicer than it used to be. I had actually only been there twice before, just because Im never on the 5th floor of the student center, and both times involved me being kicked out for loudness by angry grad students. But that wont be a problem now with the community study spaces! Well done, MIT! Now just renovate the Infinite Lounge and well be all set! MISTI Germany program orientation I was there with Ling 07 to give a presentation on all the opportunities that a MISTI internship will open up, which all of my blog readers have no doubt heard about to no end, and also to grab some free pizza. We got a little carried away on making our presentation and ended up with like 107 pictures, although we only managed to get up to around 38 before program coordinator Dr. Berka nimbly cut us off. But they were 38 good pictures. And even though they got generic pizza this year rather than Beautys, I still have to say: MISTI rocks. Concert Choir social event Basically this means that the sopranos bring in cookies and you walk around awkwardly introducing yourself to people. For some reason Ive never felt the urge to be terribly social with people in choir other than my fellow tenors and my best friend Genevieve, and that was only because she sat with the tenors all the time instead of the 50 googol altos. But, heyfree soprano cookies. Conner 2 Study Break (no link because weve been a little lax in updating our web page for the past 3 years) Are you on the MIT campus Thursdays at 10:30? Then quit your studying and come on over to Conner 2 for $15 worth of free food split 20 ways! Most halls I know seem to host some kind of weekly communal feeding event sponsored by dorm funding, and were no exception. We even rotate duty between our incomparable GRTs Chris and Summer and the individual suites on our floor. This week it was their turn to make fruit pizzas, and then next week my suite has got chili. But I really have to do a pset now, so check back later tonight. Or tomorrow. Or something. Wow, according to Movable Type it took me 3 days and 23 hours to finish this entry. Sorry, dudes.

The term they used meant â€Å"Life unworthy of life† meaning they didn’t feel like their victims were worthy enough of living and this is how they justified themselves of killing so many people. They would take all their victims and put them in Extermination camps (also known as death camps). The purposes of the camps were to kill millions of people by execution (mostly by gassing) and for people to work long and hard hours under starvation conditions. The Travel Frank and Phil were two very smart kids. Very expensive colleges accepted them in 6th grade, they would have gave them a full ride also. Then one day they thought up this great idea to accomplish. It was to build a time machine. So the next couple days they thought up plans to build this great machine. That was three years ago. Now they are in 9th grade and they are still working on it. Hopefully they will have it done in the next couple months. But if they get it done it will still have to work. That is the hardest part of this project. ?You're never going to get that thing to work.? In Wall-E, consumption is seen in both of these ways. Wall-E uses the conditions of the people and the Earth to show the message of how serious consumption can be and how close we are to following some of the actions seen in the movie. The film opens up to reveal an empty, trash-filled Earth. Due to mass consumption, which essentially took over the Earth, the extensive litter left behind made the air toxic, therefore making the Earth uninhabitable to people. Until the Earth is cleaned and habitable once again, the humans live on a spaceship hovering above the Earth. Far from being concerned about the state of their home, the humans lounge happily away in chairs that take them to whatever part of the craft they want to go to. They have all of the food that they could want, making it easy for them to gorge themselves to an unhealthy weight. These people let consumption get the better of them, resulting in a decline in health and control over their lives. Instead of learning their lesson about what took place on Earth, they continued to consume now that they had a new place to do it. The people in Wall-E, as well as the condition of the Earth, reveal how important we allow products to be in our lives. People have been known to throw away all of their money just so that they can have the newest top-of-the-line cell phone. A month later, when a newer model comes out, that first model goes in the trash and the new one is bought. The cycle continues, gradually covering our world with garbage, which is all due to our need of having stuff. More products are being created and thrown out than we can keep up with. We begin to think less of ourselves, less of our surroundings, and more about the wonderful toys and gadgets that we can get our hands on. People would rather risk being unhealthy and living in a dirty world than giving up even a single material possession. We no longer allow ourselves and our world to define us; our products and our need to have as much stuff as possible is what defines who we are. The world may be polluted, but we do not mind that as long as we have our cell phones. We have become both masters and slaves to material possessions. We are masters in the sense that we create products to do what we want them to do, which usually includes having them be capable of completing a task that makes our lives easier and less busy. We control what these products can do. On the other hand, we have become so consumed by material possessions that we are also slaves to them. We have allowed them to take over our lives to the point where many of us are willing to admit to it, yet refuse to do anything about it. Kant's Categorical Imperative Deontology is the ethical view that some actions are morally forbidden or permitted regardless of consequences. One of the most influential deontological philosophers in history is Immanuel Kant who developed the idea of the Categorical Imperative. Kant believed that the only thing of intrinsic moral worth is a good will. Kant says in his work Morality and Rationality â€Å"The good will is not good because of what it affects or accomplishes or because of it’s adequacy to achieve some proposed end; it is good only because of it’s willing, i.e., it is good of itself†. A maxim is the generalized rule that characterizes the motives for a person’s actions. For Kant, a will that is good is one that is acting by the maxim of doing the right thing because it is right thing to do. The moral worth of an action is determined by whether or not it was acted upon out of respect for the moral law, or the Categorical Imperative. Imperatives in general imply something we ought to do however there is a distinction between categorical imperatives and hypothetical imperatives. Hypothetical imperatives are obligatory so long as we desire X. If we desire X we ought to do Y. However, categorical imperatives are not subject to conditions. The Categorical Imperative is universally binding to all rational creatures because they are rational. Kant proposes three formulations the Categorical Imperative in his Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Moral, the Universal Law formulation, Humanity or End in Itself formulation, and Kingdom of Ends formulation. In this essay, the viablity of the Universal Law formulation is tested by discussing two objections to it, mainly the idea that the moral laws are too absolute and the existence of false positives and false negatives. The first formulation of the Categorical Imperative is defined by Kant to "act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law†. Good moral actions are those of which are motivated by maxims which can be consistently willed that it’s generalized form be a universal law of nature. These maxims are otherwise known as universilizable maxims. Maxims can then be put through the Categorical Imerative test to determine their universilisablility and thus the premissability the maxim. To test a maxim we must ask ourselves whether we can consi... ... Therefore the action of removing all your money from the bank when there is a stock market downturn is immoral according to the first formulation of the Categorical Imperative. The fact that a person cannot withdraw their money from a bank because of moral restraints shows that there are some serious problems with the moral theory at work. The first formulation of the Categorical Imperative â€Å"act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law† seems at face value viable. Nevertheless the lack of guidelines to determine which maxim should be used to describe an action causes problems with the consistency of the Universal Law formulation. Moreover, the abundance of false positives and false negatives suggests a deep problem with the first formulation of the Categorical Imperative that may not be fixable. Food Culture of Bangladesh Essay

Food culture of Bangladesh Bangladesh is rich with various types of foods which enrich our culture and make it familiar among the people of other nations in the world. There are different types of foods in Bangladesh which are totally dissimilar from one another from the side of taste and value. Generally, rice, dal, fish, vegetable and meat are our main dishes and the people of Bangladesh take three meals in a day. In the morning, we take breakfast where the urban people take ruti, porota, biscuit, vegetable, chicken, tea etc. and the rural people take muri, khoi, pitha or stale rice with chilly. In lunch, the people of different range take different foods according to their own choice and demand. Most of the people take rice, dal, vegetable and fish in their lunch. There’s a common saying: â€Å"Fish and rice make a Bengali.† At the time of cooking our cook uses different types of spices like garlic, peppers, turmeric, onion, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, or mustard seed etc. that make our foods more tasty. In our daily meals we generally take mixed vegetables, fish bhuna, fried okra, Bhorta, fried eggplant, chicken curry, lentils, Egg curry, beef, mutton etc. with rice. Again in our snacks we normally take Paratha, Samosa, Singara, puri, fried roti stuffed with eggs, Naan, Pitha (vapa, puli, patishapta,dudhpitha, telpitha, chitoi pitha etc. ), Mishti Doi, Ras Malai etc. After taking our meals we usually drink tea, milk etc. We also take various types of fruits in our leisure time; mango, jack fruits, banana, pine apple, orange, apple, guava, water melon, coconut and other seasonal fruits are taken according to the season and choice.

Alzheimer’s Disease Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive, degenerative disease that attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking and behavior (Internet). It is a degenerative disease affecting nerve cells of the frontal and temporal lobes of the cerebrum of the brain. The disease is the major cause of presenile dementia (i.e., the loss of mental faculties not associated with advanced age) and is thought to be the largest single cause of senile dementia as well (Britannica, 306). It causes the connections between cells to become ineffective and the cells themselves to shutdown and eventually die (Davies, 1). Alzheimer’s is a progressive, irreversible, fatal neurologic disorder that affects an estimated 4 million American adults. It is estimated by 2040,approximately 14 million Americans will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Approximately 9% of the population older than 55 years and 20% of those older than 85 years have Alzheimer’s Disease. The duration of AD averages 2 to 10 years but can be up to 20 years. By 1992, Alzheimer’s Disease was the fourth leading cause of death among adults (more than 100,000 American deaths per year). It is projected that the number of people with Alzheimer’s Disease will triple in the next 50 years. This epidemic of dementia is not confined to sex, race, social, or economic class. The public knows this disorder as â€Å"senility†, although the term Alzheimer’s is becoming more common (Rosdahl, 1356). According to a quote from
